Recruitment Event 2nd November 2010

Recruitment Meeting, 2nd November 2010, 6.30pm,
Police Headquarters

Warwickshire Police are looking for members of the public to join their Independent Advisory Groups (IAGs). IAG members provide independent, lay advice to the police on their policies and practices, including policing operations. The purpose is to give people a greater say in how policing is conducted, enabling the police to provide services that meet the needs of all communities living and working in Warwickshire.

Warwickshire Police currently has a network of Independent Advisory Groups (IAGs) that have worked with us since 2005. We have several IAG panels, which meet at Police Headquarters in Leek Wootton, in Nuneaton, Rugby, and Leamington. We plan to establish a Stratford IAG too.

We have received advice from IAGs on a wide range of issues including;

  • Stop and search procedures
  • Community relations
  • Disability access
  • Firearms, including the use of Taser
  • Critical and Major incident reviews

Warwickshire Police want to recruit more people on to our IAG panels, from the widest range of communities and backgrounds as possible. We want to invite people who are interested in making a positive contribution to protecting people from harm to come to an open evening, to discuss the role and encourage people to volunteer to join an IAG panel.

The Force is working with its Strategic IAG to hold an open evening for potential new IAG members on 2 November at Police Headquarters at Leek Wootton, commencing at 6.15 pm. There will be a presentation by Mrs Elizabeth Antrobus, the Chair of the Strategic IAG on the work of IAGs within Warwickshire Police. There will be a presentation from Warwickshire Police about how lay advisors can help policing. Assistant Chief Constable Neil Brunton will be speaking at the event. There will be a question and answer session and people will be able to informally meet IAG members from different groups to discuss what is involved.
